Alternative Study Program

Welcome to the Alternative study program for Year 12 Digital Technology.

For this study program you will pick a project, plan it out, create it and then we will match the project to your credits.

For 2023 Five Students have decided to create a video game using unity.
This page will be using that project as a base for how the alternative study program works.

Getting Started

Before you get started you will need to generate an idea for a video game that you are going to create.

The game should be simple thing of basic games such as pong or pacman. Talk to your teacher about your idea before you go ahead with it to ensure that it is simple enough.

Achievements and Standards

We will be linking in 3 achievement standards to your learning. These will all need to be handed in together with your project.

Use advanced processes to develop a digital technologies outcome

This will be the first assessment your will work on. You will need to use development techniques such as project management in order to develop an outcome.

It is similar to the year 11 project with a few more steps.

We will likely use Trello to plan out your project.

Use advanced techniques to develop a digital media outcome

One of the assessments will be tied into the media assets you create.

You will be required to ensure that you create media assets using these tools:
-Using custom Presets
-Using a combinations of steps to manipulate or enhance elements
-Using a third party library
-Using composite effects

I would suggest that you focus on one element of the game for this assessment.

Use advanced techniques to develop a computer program

The final assessment we will be reviewing the custom code you write for your video game.

In order for it to be considered for level 2 it needs to include:

Loops
  • If statements
  • Two different types of variables
  • Takes input from a user
  • Produces some form of output
  • And uses two of these advanced programming techniques:
  1. Modifying data stored in collections (e.g. lists, arrays, dictionaries)
  2. Storing multidimensional data in collections
  3. Creating methods, functions or procedures that use parameters and/or return values
  4. Responding to events generated by a graphical user interface(GUI)
  5. Using non-trivial string manipulation
  6. Using additional non-core libraries
