Term 3 Overview


Focus: Building a database using Microsoft Access

Term 3 will have the focus on databases

The focus of the first assessment is to gain skill in Microsoft Access and then produce your own program. The focus for level 2 will be on relational databases

We will spend the first 6 weeks of term 2 focusing on this.

Why? and who cares?

Everything runs off data and data is key to our world.

Combining programming with databases and web interfaces makes for a very savvy computer science technician.

What is different from level 1?

Level one used flat databases that didn't connect to each other,

The other name for this is Excel (although it can be programmed to be relational).

Relational databases relate to each other and allow you to do advanced sorting.

What to look for when learning Microsoft Access

In order to have success  have to show that you can successfully create a create a relational database and run queries

These are the skills you will need to achieve success with databases
  • Creating tables and choosing the correct databases
  • Creating relationships between tables
  • Using Queries to find information you want​
